The pre-requisite for the U/G practical is the underground orientation theory. This program is required to be completed before an employee can perform any underground work. Underground Orientation is valid for a period of 2 years. Pre-requisite for Underground Orientation is a valid NORCAT Contractor Card (General Orientation) and WHMIS. NORCAT will build orientation programs to suit company and site specific requirements. There is a 40-question Final Test at the end of this course, which requires a grade of 80% in order to pass. Starting Sept 22, 2021, the Government of Ontario will require all participants who attend IHSA training courses in selected locations to be fully vaccinated. This course takes approximately 2 hours to complete. WHMIS training delivers the necessary information to employees through labels on containers of hazardous products, MSDS’s and worker training program. General Orientation is valid for a 2-year period. This WHMIS policy was developed in accordance with the University’s directive on health and safety and to ensure compliance with Ontario Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
